Providing the heart of the SmartCab™ solution, DDS hardware powers the customer interface, driver interface, as well as all communications, reporting and dispatching to and from head office.

When selecting the hardware that is appropriate for your taxi fleet, you have a choice for both the front (DIM) and the back (PIM) of the cab. The PIM also provides the interface for processing credit cards and debit cards, providing a quicker and more secure transaction, ensuring a passenger is on their way in less time, and is more likely to use your taxi service again.

Driver Information Monitor (DIM)
Also known as the Mobile Data Terminal (MDT), the DIM is the control head for driver operations, providing trip information, messages from dispatch and more. Interfacing with the existing Taximeter, and the optional SmartPrint™ printer, as well as the PIM, the DIM keeps both the driver and dispatch up to date with every movement the cab makes, or is scheduled to make.

Passenger Information Monitor (PIM)
The PIM is the customers' main focus of interaction, providing GPS navigation and tracking, point-of-sale and entertainment functions. The PIM opens an entirely new and evolving market for mobile advertising and point-of-sale kiosk services. It is widely recognized that passengers represent a captive audience while in transit, and are receptive to interactive content that caters to their interests in what could otherwise be a dull riding experience. The real-time content update capabilities and ease-of-use of the PIM render it the ideal platform to address this opportunity.

Driving the value opportunity presented by Mobile Media and SmartCab™, the advertising presented by the PIM can be very targeted, with the ability to display or print media, advertisements or coupons. Best of all, the built-in credit card reader allows the customer to complete sales transactions easily from the PIM.

Debit and Credit Card Processing
At the end of the ride, the PIM enables customers to view the transaction, add tip and swipe their credit card all on the screen in front of them, removing the need for old style credit card processing with a fast self-service interactive Taxi kiosk. For example, compared to the minutes taken to charge a credit card with a "knucklebuster" hand imprinter, the average speed for credit card processing by DDS PIMs is 8 seconds, which allows a Taxi fare transaction to be seamlessly and quickly conducted between a Driver and passenger.

The passenger is presented with fare details at the end of the trip. For credit card payment the passenger swipes their own card on the PIM.Debit and Credit card transactions are routed from the SmartCab™ system to the payment processor, ensuring a protected, quick, high-speed connection. Receipts are printed - one for the passenger and one for the driver.
